YAMAZAKURA history
 

1931

Ichise Shoten founded as a private company in Ginza (Kobiki-cho) to sell heavy paper for business cards, postcards and greeting cards, etc.

1948

Changed the organizational structure to a public company and named it Yamazakura Meishi Ichise Shoten Co., LTD.

1951

Changed the company name to Yamazakura Meishi Co., LTD.

1961

Built a head office building in Ginza.

1963

Built the Tachikawa factory, separated and moved the manufacturing division from the head office.

1967

Established the envelope manufacturing division at the Tachikawa factory. Began television advertising.

1972

Built the Akishima factory, moved the Tachikawa factory manufacturing division.Changed the company name to Yamazakura Co., LTD.

1974

Built a new head office building in Tsukiji and moved the head office from Ginza.Changed the Akishima factory name to Yamazakura Sangyo Co., LTD.

1976

Founder Kuniichi Ichise awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays for his achievements in industrial development.

1982

Held ceremonies to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the company.

1989

Strengthened envelope production capabilities by expanding Yamazakura Sangyo facilities (Akishima factory) and installing bag manufacturing equipment in cooperative factories.

1990

Began sales of recycled paper products, such as business cards, postcards and envelopes, etc.
Began sales of solid gold business cards.

1991

Held ceremonies to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the company.

1993

Began sales of non-wood-based “bagasse” business cards.

1994

Built a new head office building in Shintomi, Chuo-ku, moved the head office functions from Tsukiji.
Began sales of non-wood-based “kenaf” business cards.

1995

Began development and sales of business card production systems and printers, etc.

1997

Passing of company founder Kuniichi Ichise, held company funeral service.

1999

Released a New Year's card design collection CD-ROM.

2000

Developed an all-paper business card case with a window. Built company website.Became ISO14001 certified at the head office and Yamazakura Sangyo Co., LTD.

2001

70th anniversary of the founding of the company.
Reorganized the company and introduced a new human resources system.
Started the CARD MATE Web internet-based business card ordering service.

2002

Built a new distribution center in Sengoku, Koto-ku, and moved the distribution center from Tsukiji.Held the first private fair since the company was founded.

2003

Began sales of “forest thinning envelopes”, which utilize the pulp from forest thinning operations.
Invested capital in and created a business alliance with DesignEXchange Co., Ltd.

2004

Built the “designPad(R)” design content portal site.
Began sales of the “Living National Treasure Business Card” on Echizen Kizuki Hosho paper (finest quality Japanese paper, which had been used historically for imperial and other official documents).

2005

Became ISO9001 certified (Akishima factory).
Built the Sakura Cube, a new distribution center in Shinkiba, Koto-ku. Also developed a new company logo at the same time.
Built a new Asakusa branch in Imado, Taito-ku.

2006

Became Privacy Mark and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified. Also began contributing 1% of sales proceeds from FSC certified paper products to the World Wildlife Fund for Nature. Held the second private fair.

2007

Built a new Sumida branch in Tatekawa, Sumida-ku.
Began sales of envelopes for page printers, and began contributing to the Kizukai (Use Wood) campaign.
Merged business with Yamazakura Sangyo Co., LTD.

2008

Opened the Sakura Terrace showroom in the Sumida branch, which was designated as a “small museum” by Sumida city.
Opened the YAMAZAKURA net store, an internet-based mail-order service site.

2009

Built the Sakura Forest Factory in Minamino, Hachioji.

2010

Designed Dec. 4th as Tree-Planting Day at Yamazakura no Oka.
Began sales of carbon-offset paper products.

2011

80th anniversary of the founding of the company.
Began sales of universal design paper products.
We renewed business card ordering web service for corporations and named it "corezo".

2012

Adopterd company tagline “Deau wo Katachi ni”.
Began sales of “rinsai&kappan” by the meishi lab.
Began sales of fair trade paper products.

2013

Launched a new brand the +lab (plus lab).
Renovated Yokohama branch.
Started the online shop “SOREAL” for printing company.

2015

Started the online shop the “TSUTAFU” for general consumers.
The Sakura Forest Factory received a Chairman's Award from the Japan Greenery Research and Development Center.

2016

85th anniversary of the founding of the company.

2017

Built a Tokyo branch with the SAKURA GALLERY.
Started the WATASHINO online magazine for business men and women.
Selected as The Driving Company for the regional future by the Ministry of Economy.
